    Match Engine

Match results are generated using a random normal distribution of results. If two teams are equal in strength the most common outcome will be a draw.

Results are skewed from a random normal distribution of results due to 1) home advantage driving a small skew towards the home team and 2) relative strength of tactic/squad selection (largest skew). This is the biggest area where your management decisions will impact!

    Missing Elements

The big two missing elements are injuries and a proper transfer/ contract economy. The issue with injuries wasn’t the injuries themselves, but having a code or logic for the AI to deal with injuries was not something I could get my head around. With the transfer/ player economy to be frank I just had no idea where to start.

Creating a Rogue-Like Dungeon Crawler in Excel: A Unique Gaming Experience

When you think about dungeon crawler games, Excel probably isn’t the first platform that comes to mind. However, this one-of-a-kind rogue-like dungeon crawler is built entirely in Excel, proving that creativity and innovation can transform even the most mundane tools into something extraordinary. With challenging mechanics, engaging gameplay, and an interface as dynamic as any game engine, this project showcases the unexpected versatility of Excel.

    The Concept

This rogue-like dungeon crawler combines strategy, fast-paced combat, and progression mechanics, all within the familiar confines of a spreadsheet. Players control a character that navigates rooms filled with enemies, upgrades, and challenges, moving one tile at a time. Armed with a sword and a bow, players must battle enemies, collect money, and purchase upgrades to survive increasingly difficult levels.

The blend of programming and creativity highlights the hidden potential of Excel as a gaming platform.

  • I made Excel into a Music DJ Studio

    January 15th, 2025

I wanted to branch out from making Games in Excel – so I brainstormed what I could try next. The answer simple: Make a DJ Studio / Music Mixer software using EXCEL. I mean how hard could it be?

Remember the Question should never be ‘Should I do this?’, rather ‘How can I do this?’

Description and Tutorial Video Link : https://youtu.be/lqYyq8X5IQI

Original song mixed in Excel: https://youtu.be/shKK13-6ZYA

Our Excel DJ studio uses VBA and Excel Macros to import audio tracks and edit them using FFmpeg – a free, open-source multimedia framework used to process audio, video, and other multimedia files.

FFmpeg is widely adopted across the tech industry due to its powerful media processing capabilities. Many major websites and popular software platforms rely on it such as YouTube, Netflix, Twitch, Facebook, Instagram and more.

  • The Grind | Poem

    December 10th, 2024

A Steel dawn smears the night as shadows breathe slows,
Bones ache like rusted gears, my skin cracked and thin.
With grit-stained teeth, I scrape through the din,
Dreams hang heavy, but refuse to let go.

    Gravel beneath your feet,
Eyes hollow from lack of sleep.
Hope’s a whisper lost in the hush,
But in clenched fists, fragments of fire burn.

    Dirt-caked hands that never break,
    You pull through yesterday’s rain.
Every step’s a war with whispers of pain,
    Yet fields of failure forsake.

The nights betray, the mornings barely mend,
Bloodshot horizons flicker, cold and bend.
You carve out your path in alleyways end,
Where dreams are currency that others lend.

But in the grime and dust, your spirit’s Force.
    Sweat-worn your flame never dies.
Each bruise a badge, each scar a silent rise,
And through the grind, your destiny is forged.

    Football Manager 2025

I personally cant wait for FM25 to come out for real – the brave new world we are entering into with Unity and graphics is exciting. But in the meantime, why not play a true spreadsheet simulator?

    Common Issues:

There is a common issue when running the game in EXCEL in languages other than english – where results are not being populated in a match week, nor being written into the match results tab. This is because different languages treat decimal places differently.

    The fix is below:

You need to active the “developer Tab” in Excel first. The Developer tab isn’t displayed by default, but you can add it to the ribbon. On the File tab, go to Options > Customize Ribbon. Under Customize the Ribbon and under Main Tabs, select the Developer check box.

You will then be able to see this Tab and in this tab click the “Macros” button. In this open the macro named “generaterandompercentages” to edit it and change in the lines 0.00 to 0,00.

Save the macro, save the .xlsm (excel file) and start a new save.

    Should work now.

    Have fun!

  • The Dreamer | Poem

    December 3rd, 2024

They sit beneath the pale, indifferent light,
A desk piled high with dreams half-wrought.
Each one a spark, a beacon burning bright,
Yet none carried to the end they sought.

Their mind a canvas, endless, vast, and deep,
Brimming with colors, shapes, and untold lore.
But visions fade while toil lulls to sleep,
The grind of days a lock on every door.

In cubicles of grey, they pass their prime,
Each tick of clocks a dirge, a mournful chime.
“When will it come,” they ask, “my rightful time?
When will my dreams be more than fleeting rhyme?”

The echoes answer not, their cries grow cold,
Ambitions lost to dust, the years unfold.
For dreaming builds a castle in the air,
But action lays the stones that place it there.

Take the first step, the path may twist and bend,
But every stride will bring you to the end.
Dreams are the seed, but effort makes them grow.
And only through the journey will you know.

  • Life’s a Beach | Poem

    December 2nd, 2024

Life’s coin – of four shifting sides,
    Our season’s dance, growth resides.
Spring to summer, then fall to frost,
A rollercoaster of both gain and cost
With each turn whispers, “Never at loss.”

Autumn stirs with its fiery breath,
Leaves like embers, to fleeting death.
Fierce winds howl, stripping trees bare,
But beneath the soil, life prepares,
    For every ending, renewal dares.

    Winter descends, its grip assured,
A frozen mirror, cold and clear.
The world stands locked in icy chains,
Our Hearths glows yet warm as love sustains,
    Through struggle’s frosty remains.

    Spring awakens, the ice retreats,
New streams hum with rhythmic beats.
    Buds unfurl, the earth revives,
    Promise of life’s song arrives,
    In every drop, creation thrives.

Summer beams with a golden hue,
The sky an endless, perfect blue.
Waves kiss the shore, the heart feels free,
Life’s a beach, where joy can be,
    Boundless tide to beauty’s decree.

  • I made Doodle Jump in Excel?!

    October 9th, 2024

Are you ready to experience the thrill of a Doodle Jump-like game, entirely built within Excel? Yes, you read that right—this game has been crafted using only Excel VBA and powerful formulas, proving that Excel isn’t just for spreadsheets! In this game, players jump between platforms, avoid enemies, and aim to reach new heights while tracking their high scores.

    Doodle Jump – Final ExcelDownload

Key Features of the Excel Doodle Jump Like Game:

    • Automatic Jumping Mechanism: The player character automatically jumps from one platform to another, with gravity and physics in play.
    • Enemy Patrols: Just like in classic platformers, avoid patrolling enemies as you move up the game map!
    • Screen Scrolling: As you ascend, the game map scrolls dynamically to keep the action front and center.
    • Real-Time Score Tracking: Track your progress and aim for the top of the leaderboard with each jump.
    • Fully Programmed in VBA: All game mechanics, from jumping and gravity to patrolling enemies, are controlled through Excel’s VBA.

Why Excel? Excel is a versatile tool, and while most people use it for data and business, it also offers a unique platform for creative projects like game development. With VBA, Excel’s programming language, users can automate tasks and create fully functional programs—like this game! The seamless integration of Excel formulas and VBA allows for game logic that replicates traditional programming environments, yet remains within the comfort of Excel.
